More basketball, you say?

More basketball photos from last weekend. Cause I thought they were neat-o.

I've almost got THE dunk shot. Not quite yet. (This was in warm-ups)

Abe and I are in Akita this weekend for 2 big games. I had never been to Akita before but so far, I like it. The weather is gorgeous, the shopping is plentiful, and our hotel is quite fabulous. A chic, modern fireplace in the lobby = FAAAANCY! ;)

I went on a little stroll this afternoon. I'll try and post some of those photos upon our return back to Utsunomiya.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

A lil Basketball

Abe's team had two home games last weekend = sports photography practice!

Getting closer to my dream of snapping a dunk photo...

...which is much harder than it seems! (this is omiya-senshu)

By the way, they won both games and are in second place.
{awesome possum!}

Eyelashes and Other Cool Stuff

Last weekend, I went to Tokyo and made that place my best buddy! Abe and I were there for his basketball games, but as usual, I had a long to-do list for the downtime while Abe had practice. Among this list included running errands, meeting friends, and visiting lots of camera shops {the camera shops in Tokyo make me squeal with delight!} .

Aaaand, I also tried something new. I have a friend who is studying to get her beautician's license so she needed someone to practice doing eyelash extensions on. I've never had them done before plus I know what it's like to want someone to pracice on (hellloooo, I constantly harass people with my camera for practice!).

It didn't hurt, took about 90 minutes and I was quite pleased with the result. I've had mixed reactions from my kindergarten students. One little boy stopped the "Hello Song" to say that "Julie Sensei looks a little cute today!" and another girl said that "Julie's eyes look...different." :)

{i don't know why my eyes look so far apart...must be the angle, or my iphone...or...?}

I guess this post could be considered a "Fashion Friday" post, which means that I have resurrected "Fashion Fridays" from the internet dead. I'm going to try and start getting more shots of Japanese fashion, so look out :)

More Fun at the Playground

The day I went to the playground with Hannah and her mother, they were joined by their friends. Kensei was a little serious in the beginning but eventually warmed up to the swing and me :)

Have you ever seen a child so serious on a swing?!

It didn't take long for him to enjoy going back and forth!

I just love this family photo. Everyone's got such great smiles...

I love laughter.

Yoshimi and Takayuki, thank you for letting me follow you around with my camera. You have a beautiful family! I hope to see you at another game very soon.

Happy Valentine's Day

The last time I got to photograph this cutie pie, she was almost a year old. Almost a year later, I was thrilled to meet up with her sweet mommy and her friends and take some pictures of the her at the park. And what better time to post this little gal with her heart attire than on Valentine's Day!

It was freezing that day and poor Hannah was shivering after being outside for only about 15 minutes. As she swung back and forth for a few minutes I just clicked away...

Judging by this cute little smile, enduring the freezing temperatures was totally worth a ride on the swing :)

Photos of her little friend coming soon...

Park Time {preview}

IT'S SNOWING again! Yahooo! I want to run outside and kick my heels up in the air.
But I'm clumsy. And it's late...

For now, here's a little preview from last weekend.
Went to the park to play with some mommies and their kids. More photos later :)

My little friend

I'm still recovering from my long, exciting weekend. There was lots of shopping, walking, photography and coffee involved.

On one of the afternoons before Abe's game I met with my friend Anna and her daughter who's turning two this week, Hanna. I was excited that she was happy to see me. So we did what ladies do. Went to a cafe and then shopping!

I got all paparazzi on her on our walk. She was sweet enough to pose for me:

She got some new shoes and was thrilled to show them to me:

I had a wonderful Sunday afternoon :)

I did a mini-session with another friend of mine and her children I'm hoping to post soon. Hope everyone's week is starting off well!

Thowin' Beans

Yesterday, many people in Japan celebrated 節分 (Setsubun). You can read more about it here or here but basically it's a day of acknowledging the end of winter by casting out the evil that may dwell in your home. Thus, people welcome spring and invite good luck into their homes.

Abe wasn't thrilled about the part of the custom that entails throwing beans at someone (him) dressed as a devil, but hey, we've had a few unlucky mishaps early in 2010 so if throwing a few beans will cast out those demons, then I'm game :)

All you need for mame-maki:

And just because he was following me wondering why I had out my camera, my beloved kitty, Ninja...

{Please excuse his thrashed collar. He's getting pretty crafty and is slowly gnawing it off}

I'm excited about this upcoming weekend. I'm going to see some friends, snap some photos, and enjoy some city life.
Hope everyone is enjoying their week!

Another Weekend in Japan

I had another weekend on the road supporting my husband and his team as they played (and won) 2 more games.

Here's a mini summary of the weekend in photos:

Some 'celebs' were sighted at the game.

Abe sported a mask due to a recent injury.

I met this adorable little girl and her mother during half time. (I complimented her sharp little hairstyle and her mom said that the little one found a pair of scissors and gave herself a trim. Not too shabby at all!)

The Brex debuted their new player, a Camaroonian native, who now resides in LA (holllaaa!)

One of the games was held at a place that could possibly double as an art gallery:

I have a couple of mini-photo shoots planned (weather and time permitting) that I'm looking forward to posting in the near future.
Ooooh, oooh. And it's currently SNOWING in Utsunomiya.
I litterally stopped teaching and took the kids outside to see, feel, touch and taste the snow. It was glorious!!!
{Hopefully, a sign of more positive things to come}
